Our senior pastor, Philip E. Moore, grew up in eastern Wilkes county and trusted Christ as his personal savior
at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, in Ronda, at the age of nine. He attended East Wilkes High and later
Appalachian State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in History – Secondary Education,
graduating Cum Laude. In January of 1991, he married his high school sweetheart, Angela Meadows and they
settled in the Swan Creek community, where they attended Swan Creek Baptist Church and worked in the youth
ministry, Sunday school and missions program.
From 1992-1997, Brother Moore taught at North Surry High, in Surry county. It was during this time that God
began to deal with him about preaching the gospel. In June of 1995, God confirmed His desire and he began
preaching youth services and revivals as God opened doors of opportunity. In March of 1997, Temple Baptist
Church, of Mt. Airy, NC, called him to be their Youth Director. Feeling that this was God’s will, he resigned his
teaching position and went on staff at Temple, where he served until March of 2000.
It was in the early weeks of 2000 that the deacons of Cherry Grove contacted him about coming as pastor.
After much prayer, God led the Moore family to the mountain. Since they arrived, the church has seen many
souls saved, nearly a dozen men called to preach (three currently pastoring, two in Bible college, three
preparing for missions work, one working in the ministry of CGBC and others praying for direction), missionaries
supported in over 28 foreign countries and 22 states, the beginning of a bus ministry, junior church, and the
establishing of a Spanish church and English bible college.
To God be the glory for all that He has done – proving our theme verse to be His promise! Ephesians 3:20-21
